Arrival

Baby Grace in the belly...

Valley Hospital is nicer than I expected. We first arrived here a little after dark on Tuesday and gradually figured out how to register with admitting and find our birth suite. We were still a little shocked that we'd just made such a spontaneous decision after all the planning.

We attended months of Bradley Natural Childbirth classes before we finally drafted our birth plan and had practiced and prepared for a relaxed intervention free labor:

Birth Plan Highlights:

  • We seek to have a spontaneous, natural, vaginal childbirth.

  • We desire to make informed decisions as a couple at every point a non-emergent choice for care/intervention is to be made.

  • We strive to manage pain by creating a relaxing atmosphere, use of visualization, water, prayer, music, moving into various positions.

I flipped to the third page where a few bullet points were under the section "Cesarean Birth (if necessary)". Definitely not what we had in mind, but after some scary moments, difficult decisions and more time in the hospital than out this past month, we both felt at peace with our choice.

Complications made natural labor all but impossible and even induced labor would've been incredibly risky. We decided to schedule a c-section, to eliminate the risk of Shanna being unconcious during an emergency procedure. The longer we waited, the risk of a serious complication grew. So after meeting our new doctor for the first time we drove up to the hospital and prepared to meet our baby.

The surgery went amazing, Grace Linda was born on December 18th at 10:33pm and while only 4lbs 9oz, she is healthy and strong. Shanna's is doing very well and recovering more quickly than anyone anticpated. Jordan has mastered diaper changes and is working on swaddling. We are all tired and greatful.

Welcome Welcome Gracie Linda! We're all so thrilled that you're here! Jordan and Shanna - SO excited for you and pray that you're grabbing a bit of rest here and there. Can't wait to come to Seattle to meet little Grace. Could any of us asked for a better Christmas gift?! I think not! Love, Jay

Yea for the Solla family - amazing Grace indeed. How long is that charming little girl? By the way Shanna, Alissa is a wee bit jealous 8-)

Thoughts and prayers are still coming for Shanna to heal quickly and Grace to put on additional weight.

Congratulations! We're all so happy for you. Grace is beautiful. I know you were hoping for natural birth, but sometimes these things are a little out of our hands.

I am so happy for you two. Grace's strength is inspiring to us all ... and Shanna, plan or no plan, sometimes God reminds us (Jeremiah 29:11) that He is still in control, but His plans for us will ALWAYS be for our good. Hugs and kisses for Grace; and you take very good care of yourself! Vong

WOW!! Congratulations to you both. We have been away and just received your wonderful news! Logan is thrilled that your amazing Grace was born on his birthday! He says all the best people are born on Dec. 18th. (We tend to agree).

Birth plan or not, the most important thing is that you are all healthy, happy and growing more in love everyday.

Our very best(including hugs and more hugs...)

Congratulations Shanna and Jordan and welcome to the world baby Grace! What a sweet little bundle. We can't wait to meet her some day in 2008. Glad things went well - albeit different from how you had planned. Happily baby and Mama are well and that's all that matters in the end!! My cousin is an OB-gyn and she says the only way a baby is born in an unnatural way is if babe comes out your nose...

Lots of love'n prayers,

Karen, Philip, Gerard, Daniel, Morris, and Maire
